Whole Wheat Garlic Bread Pizza Recipe — Crispy Homemade Slice

Sometimes deciding what to make is harder than how to make it. This hardly qualifies as an elaborate recipe, but it’s perfect for hectic weeknights when you have 20 minutes to pull dinner together. It’s far better than idling in a drive-thru line. If you love garlic bread and pizza, this combines both—and you get to dip. Need I say more?

This also works great as an appetizer at a game-day gathering. I’d hardly notice football season except for my husband’s frequent checks on his fantasy teams—sigh.

Spread garlic butter on whole wheat bread and toast it under the broiler. Sprinkle with cheese and toppings, then return to the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Description

Whole wheat garlic bread pizza topped with melted mozzarella and your favorite pizza toppings — a quick, crowd-pleasing solution for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 loaf whole wheat French bread
  • 1/2–3/4 cup butter, softened (adjust for loaf size)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups mozzarella, grated
  • Mini pepperoni (or sausage, olives, bell peppers—your choice)
  • Dried or fresh parsley, for garnish
  • 16 ounces marinara sauce, warmed

Instructions

  1. Pour marinara into a small saucepan and warm over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.
  2. Mix minced garlic with softened butter in a small bowl.
  3. Slice the French bread in half horizontally as evenly as possible.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the garlic butter over the cut sides of the bread.
  5. Place the bread cut-side up on a baking sheet and set the oven to broil.
  6. Broil until the edges begin to brown and the center is lightly toasted—about 4–6 minutes depending on your oven. Watch closely.
  7. Remove the bread, top with grated mozzarella and your chosen toppings.
  8. Return to the broiler and heat just until the cheese melts and bubbles, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  9. Take the bread from the oven, garnish with parsley, and let cool a few minutes. Slice into 2-inch pieces with a serrated knife.
  10. Serve with warm marinara for dipping.
