Your guide to the prettiest budget friendly cabinet hardware and lighting!
If you want to update your home without spending a fortune, swapping cabinet hardware and lighting is one of the simplest and most effective changes you can make. Small, well-chosen details transform the character and feel of a room, and the best part is that many attractive options are budget friendly.
When I’m working within a tight budget, I often prioritize investment in textiles, tile, and furnishings, and save money on hardware and lighting. These finishes can still have high visual impact while keeping costs low, so they’re a great place to make design-forward choices without blowing the budget.
Some of my go-to, affordable hardware brands include Lew’s Hardware, Emtek, and Liberty. You can find clean, timeless styles from these makers in the $5–$15 range, which makes it easy to upgrade kitchen and bathroom cabinets without a major investment.
Recently I helped a friend personalize a new build that arrived with many builder-grade finishes. She and her husband were able to bypass several standard options and add their own touches: unique tile, warm hardwood floors, and new hardware and lighting that reflect their style. Those changes made the house feel like their home.
My Favorite Cabinet Hardware
Choosing cabinet hardware is an opportunity to introduce color, texture, and scale to your kitchen or bathroom. Brass finishes warm a space and pair beautifully with dark cabinetry, while simple matte black or satin nickel pulls read modern and streamlined. For kitchens, I often select pulls and knobs that provide a subtle contrast to the cabinetry—enough to show intention without overpowering the room.
Budget-conscious options can look elevated when installed consistently and combined with complementary finishes in lighting and plumbing. Even inexpensive hardware from big-box stores can feel bespoke when chosen to coordinate with the overall palette and materials.
We used brass cabinet hardware in our kitchen and have been pleased with the visual lift it provided. I’ve also used similar affordable hardware in a laundry room remodel—small upgrades that make everyday spaces more pleasant and cohesive.

My Favorite Inexpensive & Beautiful Lighting
Lighting has a huge impact on ambiance, and there are many affordable fixtures that deliver big style. I typically look for affordable versions of more expensive designs—fixtures that echo the proportions, materials, or silhouette of higher-end lighting but at a fraction of the cost. Unless a project specifically calls for a splurge piece, most homes benefit from thoughtful, budget-friendly selections.
When choosing lighting, pay attention to scale, finish, and bulb type. A well-sized pendant or sconce in a complementary finish—brass, black, or aged metal—will enhance cabinetry and other finishes. Warm LED bulbs create a cozy glow that flatters wood tones and brass. Grouping pendants over an island or pairing sconces on either side of a mirror are small decisions that elevate the design.
