Ingredients

  • 1 lb dry pinto beans
  • 9 cups water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  • Sort through the beans and remove any stones or damaged beans. Rinse thoroughly under cold water to remove dust and debris.
  • Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 3–4 hours or until the beans are tender. Stir occasionally and add 1–2 cups of water if the level drops too low while cooking. Once the beans are soft and flavorful, remove bay leaves and serve warm. Enjoy!
